Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery - Colma

I am so missing the previous owners and former process of what used to be an excellent wholesale nursery. Now the purchasing process is as complicated and unpleasant as you could possibly make it, and all the effort is placed on the purchasers, and the prices have essentially doubled. Trying to plan an installation with them is nearly impossible as they won’t guarantee delivery windows, and this last time it took two weeks to get an invoice for 147 items tagged in the field for them. I really hope their process improves once their transition finally ends. There is virtually no customer service nor responsiveness either. All very nice folks, but everyone there operates at their own speed and they seem to intentionally want to make the customers’ job so much more difficult than it needs to be and impossible to plan an installation properly, large or small. We hung on for several months since the transition but we are definitely going to start looking elsewhere. It’s complicated and expensive to buy there. This is a classic example of how the customers lose when there is consolidation in the marketplace. Less choice, less service, pricier than a corner nursery, and more complicated. Their objective appears to dissuade folks from coming to the site, seeing what they buy, and so they make it as paper intensive as could be. The last order we made will have taken 3 weeks to get processed. You know, $6500 worth of plants, 20 emails, 2 hours on the telephone, and delivery fees on top of it, 10 hours to write the orders for them. Shopping at Pacific Nurseries used to be such a pleasure. I hope their process improves.

This place is awesome - needed to buy 6 olive and cherry trees - I’m used to having to drive for a couple hours out of town to get to the farms with a decent selection but they’ve really expanded this location - there were more than 50 olive trees from small to very large to choose from and about 20 cherry trees. The oak trees and Japanese maples looked great and they had a ton of smaller plants (like thousands of them). It’s a place where retail nurseries buy from. Feet a gardener who can buy there - you can’t just walk in - it’s wholesale - but the depth of choice and quality at reasonable prices is absolutely awesome - totally unexpected

Wanted to buy some shrubs but found out it was not open to public only wholesale or if you are a landscaper. Not sure the purpose of that. There are a lot of DIYers out there.

We reached out to Devil Mountain recently as we needed lots of plants for our current project, but came to realize this place has little motivation to earn business and need to better train its staff. Spoke to two female associates over the phone - one asked me to have my landscaper call in to authorize that I was his customer in order to get the prices in-person, but then another rep told me that I would need to be present with my landscaper. Extra inconvenience for no reason.

I've been shopping at Pacific Nurseries for over five years now. It has always been one of my favorite places to shop for clients or just browse/brainstorm. The staff has always been incredibly friendly, helpful and honestly fun! In recent years, they've absolutely done a refresh and have gotten the place organized beautifully, and the plants are looking more beautiful and lush than ever. Highly recommend.
