Alden Lane is a great place to show visitors and people new to Livermore too.  My parents knew Jackie and her parents.  Awesome.  Is there a little cafe there now too?

I have Lecanium scale on my blooming santa rosa plum tree ! is there anything I can do now ?

The only thing I have found that will really take out scale malathion. But it is nasty stuff. First try some Neem oil and insecticidal soaps. Apply frequently and soak those nasty scale. Some people say Pure rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) applied with a spray bottle is very effective.
Again,  apply very often, (every 2-3 days. )

How often and for how many minutes should you drip your plants.

Accepted Answer

How often to water using a drip system can vary based on a lot of factors.  In a drought year, we are watering our established landscape plants about 30 minutes once or twice a week.

A lot of factors affect the timing, beginning with the weather. Watering should go up and down with the heat.

The other factors include emitter spacing and size as well as how established the plants are and how drought tolerant they are.

Plants with only one emitter are going to suffer regardless of timing, because 1 dripper seldom waters the whole root zone.

A moisture meter is a great way to check when to water next.

As a rule of thumb, water thoroughly/deeply then allow the top couple inches to dry before watering again.

Hi Becky,

I can check tomorrow to see what we have on hand.  The smaller ones are popular and I believe I saw some earlier last week.

There are two major groups of Magnolias, those that keep their leaves through winter, and those that don't. The evergreen ones have a classic, glossy leaf and the ones that lose leaves are paler, not as stiff, and not glossy.

I'm assuming you mean the evergreen type. Let me know if you were wondering about the other type.
