Helpful friendly staff. Incredible selection of Japanese material; most comprehensive in the entire Bay Area— pines, gorgeous dwarf hinokis, shimpaku kishu in 1 and 5 gal.

I am updating this to 2 stars because the tree itself appears healthy and the price was fair. My concern is specifically with the hold and pickup experience. I selected and purchased a specific 15-gallon Flavor King pluot tree because it was fully loaded with fruit. My kids chose that exact tree because they were excited to bring it home and eventually pick the fruit. I paid for it and placed it on hold for pickup. I went back around 2 PM the same Saturday after being told the nursery closed at 4 PM, but it was already closed, so I could not pick it up that day. When I came back to pick it up three days later, the fruit was gone. Nobody contacted me ahead of time, explained what happened, offered a different tree, credit, or any option before pickup. I am attaching photos from the day I selected the tree and from pickup/current condition so others can make their own assessment. Updated after owner’s response: I understand fruit can drop naturally and that birds or squirrels can get to ripe fruit. I also understand the tree may produce fruit again in the future. However, this tree had a significant amount of fruit across multiple branches when I selected and paid for it. By pickup, there was no visible fruit left on the tree, and I did not see any half-eaten fruit or obvious dropped fruit sitting in the pot. I do not know exactly what happened to the fruit. My concern is that I selected and paid for a specific tree in a specific condition, and the tree was materially different at pickup. A simple acknowledgement or heads-up would have gone a long way. I would still consider buying from them for price and selection, but I would not recommend placing a fruiting tree on hold. If you are buying a specific fruit tree, take it home immediately and check the exact tree carefully before leaving.

They are exceptional and their knowledge is unparalleled. I’ve brought dozens of trees from them over the years and they are always healthy. They will also special order trees and plants they don’t have at the nursery and call you timely when it arrives.
