Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden

Expected more plant diversity but it's a nice stop for butterflies

This garden has so much potential. I was excited to see there was a botanical garden experience in Key West. Unfortunately, it was a sad experience. The garden promotes itself on native plant education and displays. I skipped the audio tour but I'm sure it was educational. I am assuming the staff is well informed and helpful in educating the public on important topics too. But the garden itself leaves much to be desired. I am sure the storms and hurricanes do not help but more is needed to make this a worthy attraction. The cactus exhibition was distressed as many parts were. The butterfly habitat had one butterfly. Some paths closed for repair. The boardwalk was in need of repair. Viewing of native specimens was obscured. Not an AHS member, which would likely help visitors know about the place. Several plant tags, while meant to be funny, struck me as a lack of understanding that those comments mirror the state of the garden. Lots of opportunities for enhancing daily maintenance. As a garden enthusiast, I hope that they receive more local municipal interest/funding and can pave a hopeful way to the future. The area needs a garden that can showcase natives in an attractive way and provide education at the same time.

Great place to familiarize yourself with native plants and bird watch.

This is a tropical forest. Very green and beautiful but few colorful plants. Turtles were cool. You can go at your own pace which is nice. I wouldn't recommend for kids - I would think they would get bored. Main path is stroller and handicapped friendly.

Keys Conch Native this is a great place to walk around in nature to avoid key West hustle and busle and just relax. Also a much better place to visit and walk around while waiting for someone at the hospital to be released.
