About the Nursery

General Retail Garden Center. Top products: spring flowers, annuals, perennials, gardening supplies, potted plants. Elder's Ace Hardware - Rome operates as a comprehensive retail destination that includes a dedicated garden center component alongside its traditional hardware offerings. Catering primarily to residential homeowners and gardening enthusiasts, the garden center focuses on providing a diverse selection of seasonal live plants, including spring flowering annuals and a variety of ornamental plants. Their inventory is maintained through routine care, ensuring plants are well-watered and healthy for retail sale. While the business functions as part of a larger chain of family-owned hardware stores, the garden department serves as a vital resource for local gardeners, offering both plant stock and the necessary horticultural tools and maintenance supplies to support home gardening projects. The store prides itself on a customer-centric approach, emphasizing staff expertise to assist visitors with plant selection and garden maintenance advice, positioning itself as a neighborhood hub for both home improvement and horticultural needs.

Wide selection and very helpful staff. Way more convenient than larger stores. Awesome gift selection. Small things are very organized, unlike lager stores.

Two issues have brought this store down significantly in my estimation: poor customer service and a corporate product decision that ignores serious gardeners. When I need assistance in the store, getting quality help is hit or miss — mostly miss. That alone is frustrating for a small hardware store that should have knowledgeable staff on the floor. On top of that, Elder’s Ace Hardware corporate has pulled all large-bag Espoma products from their shelves and replaced them with Miracle-Gro. My wife and I had specifically been looking for a local retailer that carried a full Espoma line, Land & Sea Compost, bioTone, and their complete organic fertilizer lineup. Espoma is a far superior product for anyone serious about organic soil health. Miracle-Gro is not a comparable substitute. We were genuinely excited when this store opened at the new location with Espoma on the shelf. That didn’t last. Now every visit ends the same way — they don’t have what I’m looking for, and the staff isn’t much help either. What they do seem to stock plenty of is decorative, impractical merchandise or poor quality tools the kind of fluff that looks nice on a shelf and is most likely made in China. If that’s what you’re after, you’re in luck. Until the service improves and Espoma comes back to the shelf, I can’t recommend this store to anyone looking for quality, practical home and garden products.
