About the Nursery

Full-Service Retail Garden Center. Top products: Trees and shrubs, Annuals and perennials, Tropical plants, Fresh floral arrangements, Herbs and vegetables. Established in 1984 and based in Central Illinois, Growing Grounds is a comprehensive garden center and florist. The business functions as a retail horticultural hub, providing a wide array of nursery stock, including seasonal annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, and tropical plants. Beyond plant sales, the company offers professional expertise in plant identification and garden care, often hosting educational events, such as their annual Hydrangea Festival, to instruct local homeowners on regional planting, pruning, and fertilization techniques. While they maintain a strong horticultural focus, the business also incorporates a florist department for fresh arrangements and a home decor section. They serve the regional community by providing both the botanical supplies necessary for residential landscape projects and professional guidance for plant maintenance in the specific climate of Central Illinois.

I recently visited Growing Grounds, and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. I was looking forward to exploring what they had to offer, but I found the staff to be quite unhelpful and unapproachable. When I arrived, I had a few questions about the products, but the staff (including what seemed to be a manager?) seemed more interested in chatting about their weekend plans rather than assisting customers. I stood around for quite some time, hoping someone would offer help, but it felt like I was invisible. When I finally managed to get a staff member's attention, their responses seemed like they wanted to get rid of me and lacking any real assistance. It’s disappointing because I had heard great things about Growing Grounds, but the attitude of the staff really put a damper on my visit. Customer service is key, and in this case, it was sorely lacking. I left feeling frustrated and not inclined to return anytime soon.
