About the Nursery

Native Woodland Plant Nursery. Top products: spring ephemerals, ferns, woodland plants, native perennials. Wild Ginger Woodlands is a specialized horticultural nursery focused on the propagation and sale of native woodland flora, with a particular emphasis on spring ephemerals and ferns. The nursery caters to homeowners, native plant enthusiasts, and garden designers looking to incorporate site-specific, ecologically appropriate plant species into their landscapes. Operating with a focus on horticultural education, the business provides extensive resources, including bloom time guides, cultural instructions, and plant lists tailored to specific growing conditions. Their operational model is localized and community-focused, utilizing a pick-up only system for orders at their nursery location or designated seasonal sale events. By maintaining a niche inventory of woodland perennials, they support biodiversity and native habitat restoration. The business emphasizes transparency through detailed informational resources, helping customers successfully establish native gardens that thrive in shade or woodland environments.

I grabbed some bloodroot starts from Sally late in the season - she was super nice, chatted for a bit about my garden and her own setup, and gave me a few extra starts! Worth the drive if you can't catch her at a plant sale!

I have purchased from Sally many times as a small business owner. Her native plants are always beautiful and healthy. She is very knowledgeable, caring, and detail oriented. I find most fascinating how she starts her native ferns in her home lab. The icing on the cake for me has been getting to visit with her on her beautiful property for plant pick ups.

I have purchased plants from Wild Ginger Woodlands for the past few years and am always pleased and amazed at the variety, quality, and attention to detail that is required for their propagation. I regularly leave charged by the growers wisdom and am enthusiastic to watch her plants establish and build habitat in new places. Their plants have primarily gone into biodiversity driven commercial sites and a few special residential projects. Plants grown and nurtured by caring hands make a huge difference!

I have been getting plants from Sally for a few years now. All are healthy, well established, and a great price. They adjusted well to my garden and are thriving. Finding native woodland plants can be very challenging here in Michigan and making sure they are sourced ethically is important. Knowing that these plants are grown from seed and not from wild populations is fantastic.
