About the Nursery

Retail and Wholesale Plant Nursery. Top products: annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs, houseplants, garden supplies. Al's Garden & Home is a long-standing horticultural enterprise based in the Portland, Oregon area, operating multiple retail locations for over 75 years. The business functions as both a producer and a retailer, growing over 80% of its own plant inventory, which includes a diverse selection of annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, and vines. Their operational model bridges the gap between commercial production and retail consumer needs, catering to home gardeners and landscape enthusiasts alike. In addition to their primary nursery stock, they offer a wide array of horticultural supplies such as fertilizers, soil amendments, tools, and plant remedies. The business emphasizes consumer education through extensive growing guides, seasonal planting resources, and expert advice on topics ranging from pollinator garden maintenance to drought-tolerant plant care. Beyond plant production, they integrate lifestyle offerings including outdoor pottery, patio furniture, and home decor, while maintaining a focus on regional suitability for their plant offerings.

DO NOT BUY VEGETABLE, HERB OR FRUIT PLANTS FROM THIS NURSERY. All of their seedlings are planted in a thick fibrous soil inside of a fibrous cup. I removed the cup but because the soil itself is so thick and fibrous, after a couple of weeks in the ground they become root bound and could not expand beyond the fibrous substance they were planted in. They have a small edible plant section compared to their other stuff so vegetables, fruits and herbs are clearly not their focus, and they didn't know what their doing. I would recommend finding a different nursery for your food garden. Even Lowe's or Home Depot has significantly better quality than Al's. My personal favorite is Cornell Farms.

Worth the drive here if you want a well organized and massive selection.

The ferns I purchased were gigantic and just gorgeous. They have a great selection and variety of plants. Some of the more unique bulbs were sold out and they have lovely home decor. Many decorative pots, candles and indoor plants. The set up of the outdoor patios gave great ideas and visions for the garden or backyard. The variety of roses and colors were hard to choose from. May have missed the oversized pots but I enjoyed walking around seeing everything from fruit trees to bulbs to seasonal flowers. Every time I come here I know the plants are quality and visually pleasing. Have not had any plants with any issues from there.
