About the Nursery

Edible Perennial Permaculture Nursery. Top products: edible perennials, medicinal plants, fungi. Nuts & Bolts Nursery is a cooperatively-owned permaculture nursery based in Smithfield, Rhode Island, focused on promoting ecological and equitable food systems. The business specializes in the propagation and sale of edible perennial plants, medicinal varieties, and fungal species. Operating with a mission to address climate change and systemic inequality, the nursery serves as a source for home gardeners and individuals looking to integrate sustainable, food-producing vegetation into their landscapes. By emphasizing decentralized food production, they provide plant material intended to create resilient, self-sustaining ecosystems. Their catalog is curated to support regenerative gardening practices, offering plants that provide long-term yield and environmental benefits rather than purely ornamental value. The nursery functions as both a retail supplier and an advocate for horticultural autonomy, targeting customers interested in permaculture and sustainable agriculture.
