About the Nursery

Full-service retail garden center. Top products: trees, shrubs, perennials, houseplants, annuals. Established in 1952 by James Wilson, Wilson’s Nursery & Garden Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina, has evolved from an open-air market into a prominent 10-acre horticultural facility featuring 23 greenhouses. The business is characterized by its significant production capacity, as the nursery grows approximately 75 percent of the inventory it sells directly to the public. Serving a diverse customer base, including local homeowners and gardening enthusiasts, the nursery focuses on providing affordable ornamental plants, including a wide selection of trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and indoor houseplants. In addition to their live nursery stock, they offer hardscaping supplies such as concrete goods and pottery. Now managed by subsequent generations of the Wilson family, the business emphasizes a customer-centric service model, operating seven days a week and maintaining a consistent reputation for quality and value within the regional gardening community.

Over 80% of my plants and bushes come from here. I love how they always have healthy plants at reasonable prices available!

They are not open the hours they have posted. Just an FYI for people driving all the way out there. They also have a phone number that doesn’t work.

Two weeks ago we purchased approximately $200 worth of plants, one of them being a tibouchina plant that is not a perennial in this area. It doesn’t do well when temperatures dip below freezing. The plant was outside when we saw it and it looked OK so we purchased it. We figured they might have pulled a few out from a greenhouse for show that day as it was warm, but that wasn’t the case here. When we brought it home, we repotted it into a decorative container, gave it some water and brought it inside our home in a well lit room. Within one week, several leaves shriveled up and dropped from the plant and by two weeks it was bare of any vegetation or flowers. Today, I went back to purchase additional plants and see if they would refund the purchase of this one plant as it was definitely impacted by being left outside in sub freezing weather prior to our purchase. Our hope was this vendor would realize that this damage so close to this purchase was not because we did something wrong but may in fact be that they left them outside in cold temperatures. When speaking with the gentlemen about this concern, he was curt and disrespectful with an emphatic no on any refund. When I tried to explain the circumstances he was agitated and repeated he’s not going to refund the purchase. I even had the plant with me to show him but we never got there. It was clear that the extent of the damage couldn’t have occurred within the two weeks based on our actions. I didn’t want to make a scene so I said OK and walked away. To be fair with this review, we have spent hundreds of dollars at this location for plants over the years and I believe their selection is excellent and pricing fair. The concern here is the adamant disregard for customer appreciation and service. I do understand that homeowners can cause issues and also know diseases and mishandling at a nursery may also impact plant health and may not be visible to the purchaser. My warning to all who want to visit this location would be don’t by shrubs, trees or expensive plants as this vendor appears to be only interested in collecting your money and once you drive away any issues are your problem even if they really aren’t. There are many nurseries and plant sellers who offer a one year satisfaction guarantee and you should really look to make those purchases there when you outlay a lot of money. If you just want annuals and you purchase they the right time, you’ll probably be fine. We’ve also had situations, in the past, where the tag in the pot wasn’t the actual variety of the plant and they took no ownership of that error too. I’m not one to try and scam a nursery as I have a yard with hundreds of of plants and many have expressed our yard belongs in a magazine. They also inquire as to where we purchase our plants as well. I do hope you enjoy the $20 you clung to so tightly to today as that meager windfall cost you a much larger purchase as I was planning to buy other shrubs, large plants and hanging pots which I chose to buy elsewhere. I hope others will see that I was trying to be reasonable but ran into a very aggressive denial which shows a lack for customer satisfaction and service. It is clear that this nursery caters to the large volume retailers that load up their trailers but i definitely see many people just like us purchasing for their homes. You’d think an operation this large wouldn’t be hurt by refunding $20 to a customer who in our case was has spent hundreds of dollars at their nursery.
