What daylilles would work on a slope,in san diego cal

In your area, you'll want to stick with daylilies that are labeled as being either evergreen or semi-evergreen (you can select for those on our website).  Any of those varieties should work on a slope, you'll want to mulch until they get established to try and help prevent erosion or runoff (depending on how steep your slope is)

Can you purchase the plants and bring them home the same day or do you have to wait for them to ship you the plants ?

We have over 100 varieties in pots, and you can take those.  Also, during our annual Daylily Festival (June 27-28 in 2025) we have a plant sale, with about 50 varieties of pre-dug plants that are available to take.

If you see something you'd like that isn't available in pots or at the plant sale, you can order them at the garden and we will ship them to you for free.

When is the best time to dig up and separate daylilies in middle Georgia?  Thank you!!!

Spring is a good time to divide, if you get them divided and replanted early enough they should have time to settle in and bloom well the same year. In your area you can probably dig as early as mid to late February depending on the weather. Fall is also a good time, try to finish a few weeks before cold weather.

You'll probably want to stick with varieties that are either evergreen or semi-evergreen.  Some of the dormant varieties would probably work as well, if you see a dormant variety that catches your eye, check the comments to see if someone in your zone has grown it.  The foliage information is listed with each variety, and you can search by foliage type as well under the Shop Daylilies tab.

How long can I keep the day lillies in the box after delivery?

You'll want to plant as soon as you can, but they will be ok for several days or longer if you need to wait.  Just open the box and keep it somewhere cool, out of the sun, and then be sure and water them well after planting.

You can grow any kind in your area, they will all get frozen to the ground in winter, so it doesn't make any difference.  That is the same zone our nursery is in.

What is your longest reblooming red daylily?  A friend suggested I buy Little Business daylily. 
I've started a small hummingbird feeder section this summer off a section of my back porch. Recently, I added  potted Lucifer Crocosmia.

I would say that Earlybird Cardinal has been our best reblooming red, but Little Business would be a good choice as well

How do you keep deer from eating your daylilies?

Hi Norma, unfortunately deer do like daylilies.  We don't have enough deer in our area that we have to treat for them, so I don't have any first-hand knowledge of which of the deer repellent products work best, although I have heard from folks who have had success with Deer Off.  You may want to try your local garden center and see if they have a recommendation for what deer repellent product has worked for folks in your area.  Thanks!

Do you still sell Frans Hals?  My old old clump is fading.  I dug to divide this year and the rhizomes look weak with only a few fans to salvage.  Its a sentimental favorite.

Can your fertilizer for daylilies be used for other plants?

It should be fine to use with other plants.

what causes buds to deform and the outer petals to become hard and the blooms to be deformed.|?  This is happening to several daylilies this year.

We see some of that kind of thing happening each year, mostly at the start of the season, and just sort of random as to which plants are affected.  Since it's not been a very big issue, we haven't pursued the cause, but suspect it's probably weather or insect related (sorry to be so vague).  If you did happen to notice a large aphid or thrip infestation, you could try insecticidal soap or a spray, but I suspect the damage will cease (or at least diminish) as the season progresses.

What can you spray on daylilies for white flies??

We don't have any firsthand experience, but I think an insecticidal soap or neem oil would work, or there are lots of chemical sprays available, anything for use on insects in the garden/flowers should be fine (check the label just to make sure it doesn't happen to say anything about not spraying daylilies, I'd be surprised, but can't hurt to check)

When should you fertilize daylilies?

Typically, Spring is the best time to fertilize, after most of the chance of freeze is past. Some folks will fertilize again in the fall, at least a few weeks before first frost.
