Shopping with Steph! TBH I’m still finding my way as a plant parent and am not a frequent shopper (dirt, house plants, CHRISTMAS trees), but if you’re looking to bring the outdoors IN, this large local spot has been serving Austin since ‘94 and has your bases covered. From landscaping with Texas-hearty perennials to orchids & tropicals, along with gifts from local artisans and a talking bird, there’s something for everyone! Knowledgeable staff helped me pick a pot, figure out proper watering/drainage, and a new leafy green for the next adventure in parenting!

Stopped by looking for some plants and pots and I was very impressed with everything about this place! The staff were friendly, helpful, and happy to answer questions. The selection was great, and the entire place felt less like a garden center and more like exploring a hidden area on a map in a video game. The environment is absolutely beautiful, the prices seemed fair, and everything was well maintained. I'll definitely be back!
One of the most unique nursery's I've been to! From dozens of low priced indoor and outdoor pots and plants, to a cat, parrot, and koi fish pond! This is definitely a must-visit!
Today was my first time stoping in and i was widely impressed by the selection and the prices. There used to be a “succulent farm” i would visit in East Austin that closed down. I was used to their prices and The Great Outdoors prices were so much more competitive! They also had a great array of choices.
My partner and I visited The Great Outdoors on Friday, 19Jun2026 and had the opportunity to chat with Micah and Kirin. We had such a great experience with them both. We not only learned a lot, but we became even more excited about being plant moms! Thank you both for an amazing experience, helping us find the scooter planter and inspiring two plant lesbians that anything is possible! PS. Kirin- know I misspelled your name because we talked about the spelling, I’m sorry.
