Enjoyed the Summer's Splash of Color Container Gardening talk. Afterwards I took advantage of the $10 off $50 or more with a coupon for attending. Now onto the fun of using the helpful information I learned.

Pro: This place has good inventory and variety. Cons: very rude customer service. Gardening is supposed to be a welcoming, healthy hobby right? The customer service here, specifically by Shelley at the front desk, is really unfriendly and straight up rude. First I excitedly came into the store earlier this year and asked for a recommendation for a low maintenance houseplant to put in my bedroom. I did not own any plants and was excited to get started. When I’d asked for help with this, Shelley and another dark-haired female front desk worker looked at each other so confused that like that was the most outrageously niche and bizarre question I could have ever asked workers in a plant store. The other woman eventually started to lead me to the houseplant area and looked back at Shelley shrugging with a 🥴 face, again as if this was an insane request. Eventually this woman helped me pick my plant. I came in recently as my plant wasn’t growing correctly nor perking up. Shelley was at the front desk again and we asked her and her trainee what they thought was wrong. She, very condescendingly, told us that the roots were black and started plucking the plant apart. We asked what this meant. She shortly said “rotten.” I said “can you tell us how?” She said “overwatered.” She then rudely asked a few different plant terminology questions we didn’t understand, responding very short and unfriendly as if it was a moral qualm and shame to let this plant die from too much care. We asked if we could grab another to replace it and she said “you’ll have to go to the back of the line”. There was ONE woman waiting in line behind us. We finally go to check out with our replacement and her trainee asks for our phone number. When they see our number is not in the system, both Shelley and trainee act as if that is an abomination not only to not be in the system but think there was a slight possibility we might be and asking to check. As the transaction is finishing up, she is shaking her head to herself. I understand if she was having a bad day the first time, but given the demeanor has been the same both times I will not be returning to this store. Shelley should not be in a customer-facing role at this store with this attitude and treatment of others. Gardening and plants should be a welcoming healthy friendly hobby and community. Calloways description says “the ideal place to find your inspiration”. If I was once inspired to get into taking care of plants, Calloways is not the place to do that
On a recent visit, I was looking to buy some Viburnums. They didn’t have the type I wanted, so, Ryan said he’d have someone bring them from Houston. Wow! Over and above! A few days ago, Ryan called saying he had them. I went to buy them, they were in great condition and I can’t wait to plant them. Thanks Ryan!!!
Outstanding customer service. Very pricey
One of my favorite garden nurseries in North, Texas. Ryan the General Manager at this location is just one of the nicest and of the most knowledgeable guys in the field of gardening. His staff members are always super helpful and friendly. If one does no the answer, they will ask someone who does. Let’s go to the value at all of their locations. I price shop all of the garden stores in the area, from Lowe’s, Home Depot to Christiana’s and more. Calloways has the best pricing for fuller, thicker herbs then anyone else in town their pricing on herbs are almost $2.00 less then Home Depot and or Lowe’s these days, and they look so much better. Christiana’s might be cheaper but the lack of thickness and fullness of their herbs are just putting you behind by a month or more. Trust me, go look. The organization at Calloways also just makes it easier to find the herbs and flowers quickly and easily compared to big box stores. The variety is unmatched at this location, Custer location and the North Plano location as well. I shop all locations as I look for the most beautiful flowers I can find. Calloways has come a long way over the decades. They have now become some of the most competitive flowers, herbs and vegetables specialists with great overall value. Go give them a try and if you have go back and try them again after you shop those big store brands. Be sure to sign up for their deals and email notifications. That’s where the real savings show up!
