Rainy Day Flora is a specialized native plant nursery and garden design firm based on Whidbey Island, Washington. They focus on the cultivation and installation of plants native to the Pacific Northwest, Northern California, and the Northern Cascades. The business operates as both a propagation nursery and a design consultancy, assisting homeowners with site-specific planning that accounts for soil composition, light, and local ecology. By growing the majority of their inventory on-site, they maintain high standards for plant health and regional adaptation. Their mission emphasizes environmental stewardship and the integration of native flora into residential and commercial landscapes. While their primary output supports their own garden installation projects, they offer retail opportunities for native plants by appointment. Additionally, the nursery provides educational tours of their propagation and display gardens and maintains a recycling program for plastic nursery pots to minimize environmental impact.

Last year Jumanji designed a beautiful native garden for me. She drew a detailed map of the area, recommended and provided plants and came out to help place them. A season later and it has already filled in. This summer Jumanji created a brick pathway through our yard to our cottage and shed. I watched her carefully and expertly create this long curved path. It looks fantastic. I also observed her diligent hard work. She is dependable and efficient and I highly recommend her for gardening and hardscape.

Every experience I have had with Jumanji and her team has been exceptional (designing and installing native plantings to transform a grassy slope & rock wall; installing a flagstone patio; troubleshooting when a water problem arose; teaching me a lot about natives in the process). Expectations and communication have consistently been clear, timely and reliable (which especially stands out to me, as this had not been the case with a different company I worked with before switching to RDF). On more than one occasion, the final cost ended up being *less* than what the initial estimate for the project was, which was a pleasant surprise. The only plants in my yard that are not doing well are the ones I put there myself; in contrast, everything Jumanji touched is thriving (she clearly knows her stuff!). On top of it all, the team members are delightful human beings to be around. Oh, and my garden feels magical. Consider me a happy customer!

Jumanji designed a short and long-term plan for our new-home landscaping a little over a year ago, and has done two installations. They look gorgeous! Her plant selections - native and deer-resistant - are lovely, and she did an excellent job planning for successive bloom and color. She listens to our preferences and concerns, and her communication is clear and prompt regarding questions, scheduling and budget. The whole process has been easy and enjoyable. I highly recommend her.

Rainy Day Flora was really great to work with through all phases of our large native garden installation. They worked with us on the design after a couple of site visits and came up with an really terrific layout, including a circle of natural stone pavers for a patio area. They worked hard and the installation was quick. The native plants they put in were all very healthy and have acclimated well. The stone patio area looks great. They built up some berms to make the space more intimate, works really well. A fantastic job, highly recommend them.

I have been working with Jumanji and her team for 4 years. She and her team took our empty plot of land and designed, sculpted and have maintained a large wildflower landscape with firepit and walkways that change beautifully with the seasons, feed the pollinators and birds, and help control water flow thru our property. We are very happy. Jumanji is a pleasure to work with! Thank you, Jumanji!
