About the Nursery

Specialty Dahlia Tuber Nursery. Top products: Dahlia tubers, Ornamental flower bulbs, Seasonal perennials. Connell’s Dahlias is a specialty horticultural grower dedicated to the production and sale of high-quality dahlia tubers. The business operates as a niche nursery, providing a vast selection of dahlia varieties categorized by bloom size, ranging from small 4-inch flowers to large, dramatic blooms reaching up to 14 inches. Their catalog includes new introductions and curated selections for gardening enthusiasts. The nursery functions as both a retail provider for home gardeners and a destination for in-person plant sales during the growing season. They utilize a seasonal business model, managing order cycles for spring delivery and coordinating local pickups for customers. Their focus remains strictly on the cultivation and supply of ornamental floral stock, catering to those seeking to enhance their landscapes with high-performing, specific dahlia cultivars.

I placed an online order for dahlia tuber pickup and received an email when they were ready. (Connell's also made an announcement on Facebook, which alerted me to check my Spam.) Website was user- friendly, no complaints. Driving instructions were very clear. Pickup was smooth and fast. My order was correct, and I even received an extra tuber in one of my bags! The tubers were absolutely pristine (see my photo). So firm and healthy. Not at all like the old, mushy, dirty ones you find in the big box stores. I waited until today, May 1st, to plant them out. By then, each and every one of my 8 varieties had already sprouted! Yes!!! I planted them with bonemeal and a fencing stake in each hole. Using the square foot gardening method, I planted 1 tuber per square, in a 3x6' raised bed, 2 rows total, with "State Fair" zinnias sown thinly between the dahlia squares. A bit close, sure, but I'm just growing for my own enjoyment and want to discourage weeds. I dug a 5" deep hole for each tuber and ended up covering them with 2-3" of soil. Lay them on their sides, eye/shoot facing up. This dahlia farm, Connell's, has been in the same family for generations. They know what they're doing, and I bet all the varieties they offer will continue to thrive here in the PNW. BUY LOCAL!

Excellent tubers and blooms in 2025. 4/4 did very despite adverse growing conditions. I ordered many more this spring.

Not great if you need to talk to someone. No phone number to call. Multiple emails unanswered. Potentially doesn’t have an attendant on site? I stopped by and there were people in the field staring at us, but no one offered to help. Could have been other customers, so we waited for a while and after a couple of minutes left when we didn’t have anyone come greet us or pop up. Sad thing is I actually needed to order 500 cut Dahlias for an event and would have rather given the money to a small business instead or a big box floral place or a grocery store, but didn’t pan out. I tried to give them a chance by email and almost two months later I never got a response to my initial request for help on the 16th of August or any he follow up email on August 22nd
