About the Farm

Mycology supply and cultivation. Top products: Pre-inoculated mushroom logs, Plug spawn dowels, Mushroom starter kits. 2FunGuys, founded by Howard Berk and Todd Pittard in Atlanta, Georgia, is a specialized mycology business focused on log-grown mushroom cultivation. The company serves the direct-to-consumer market by providing pre-inoculated hardwood logs and DIY starter kits, enabling home growers to produce gourmet mushrooms such as Shiitake, Oyster, and Lion’s Mane. Their production process involves the meticulous selection of Sweetgum trees, which are then inoculated with M.O.S.A. certified organic plug spawn. The logs are subsequently cured in controlled aging bins to ensure robust mycelium colonization before shipment. Beyond selling physical supplies like spawn, wax, and pre-drilled logs, the company functions as an educational resource, offering inoculation classes and detailed compatibility charts for wood-to-mushroom species. 2FunGuys maintains a strong retail presence, partnering with major national outlets like Home Depot and Williams-Sonoma, while emphasizing sustainable, small-batch agricultural practices.

I ordered 250 Shiitake mushroom plugs. They arrived within the next few days and they looked great! I got them all put in the logs yesterday so now I wait 😊

I've contacted the company multiple times and they don't respond. My logs are over a year old with no results. I bought from this company for their guarantee. They do not honor their advertised guarantee.

So. It's been years. My mother bought me a shittake log for Christmas. I soaked the log in non chlorinated water, rain water, in a clean 5gal bucket. I sat it on a lower branch of a tree out of the sun.. I checked it often to make sure it didn't dry out. The wax eventually started popping off. When I got a close look, it had green mold at all the inoculation points. It never grew one shittake mushroom. As someone who is use to growing mushroom, I knew it went bad. Several years later it produced mushrooms but they were 100% not shittake. They were just some random wild, non edible mushrooms. I was interested in them anyway so I asked a mycologist for a proper ID. He gave his best guesses without actually having it in hand. I believe he was correct when I searched the names myself. Mean green happens sometimes, I realize that, but fresh shittake would have been great. But I do have wild edible relatives in my area I think I might try next time I find them. I can get them fresh from an Asian market, but they're kinda sus. I still have the log lol. It's probably been 5yrs maybe more. I still check it out for new mushrooms now & then.

Don't give up!! Got this log for Christmas in 2022 (sorry 2020). Tried various things, and all of a sudden they are popping out all over. We live in North Idaho so it got cold, snow, and rain.

In January 2021 I bought shitake spawn and oyster spawn. I followed the directions carefully and now in December 2021, I'm seeing my first oyster mushrooms come out.
