About the Nursery

Full-Service Greenhouse and Nursery. Top products: Roses, Vegetable starts, Herbs, Poinsettias, Christmas trees, Firewood. Meinke Garden Center Inc, located in Niles, Illinois, is a multi-generational horticultural business with roots dating back to 1871. Originally established as a farm with a vegetable stand, the operation has evolved into a comprehensive retail greenhouse and garden center. Their primary focus is the cultivation and retail sale of a vast array of ornamental and edible plants. They are particularly noted for their extensive rose collection, which includes over 200 varieties, ranging from English and shrub roses to Tea roses. Beyond their floral offerings, the nursery maintains a robust inventory of vegetable starts and herbs, including specialized Asian vegetable varieties that attract a diverse regional customer base. As a seasonal operator, the business transitions throughout the year, producing home-grown Poinsettias for the winter months and offering premium Christmas trees. While their core identity is rooted in plant production and greenhouse management, they also provide horticultural supplies and firewood, catering primarily to local homeowners and gardening enthusiasts seeking expert advice and high-quality plant material.

I was so stoked to find this place! I spend easily 150 a week here and drive the 20 minutes instead of home depot for little things to show support. Everyone one is normally so informative and nice but today I had the an unappreciated customer service experience. All my questions were answered with condescension that made me want to walk away from the cart and go to Lowe's. Should be proud your customers are overwhelmed by all the options, not treat them like an idiot for follow up questions. It's upsetting when you send them so much business. I'll probably go back but if I'm met with the same customer service, my gardening friends and I will find a different nursery. I am a very happy and positive person. Not a "Karen" post. I normally only post if it's overwhelmingly postive experience but this jarred me.

Huge variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Many Asian vegetables that aren't found elsewhere and prices are reasonable. For me, it would help if there were signs by the greenhouse doors indicating which plants are inside or signs inside over an area such as "peppers" or "tomatoes". Maybe they deliberately don't have signs so we have to walk through several greenhouses to find the zucchini we're looking for. No parking lot. Street side only and on busy days, you could easily have a quarter mile walk to the entrance.

A lot of plants to choose from and everyone was able to answer my question about the plants we purchased.
