About the Nursery

Ornamental Perennial Grasses Nursery. Top products: Ornamental grasses, Perennials, Native plants, Sedges, Rushes. Kurt Bluemel, Inc. is a renowned horticultural institution historically recognized as one of the preeminent growers of ornamental grasses and perennials in the United States. Founded by the late Kurt Bluemel, a pioneer in the nursery industry, the operation specialized in the propagation and production of a vast catalog of grasses, sedges, and rushes, as well as distinct perennials. They served as a critical wholesale supplier for landscape architects, garden designers, and botanical institutions across North America, instrumental in popularizing the use of ornamental grasses in modern landscape design. Their growing methods focused on high-quality container and field-grown stock, prioritizing botanical accuracy and hardiness. While the business has evolved, its core legacy remains the introduction and cultivation of diverse plant palettes that defined contemporary perennial garden styles, emphasizing texture, movement, and ecological adaptability in both commercial and residential landscape projects.

I recently received polygonatum from Kurt Bluemel. These plants were due to be ready end of May and no one ever followed up with me to let me know they were ready. When I called to ask about the plants there was some confusion, but then she confirmed they would be ready early June and shipped via UPS. Upon receipt every single plant was damaged. Most of the stems were broken off at right angles and 3 of the plants were not even rooted in the pots. When I called to ask how they would remedy the situation, they said they would trade us back the damaged plants for new ones. As we are over an hour away I asked would it be possible to have them dropped off when they have a truck in the area. At first the woman told me no, but then she said, hold on the owner is here and he said we can have a truck out tomorrow. I said great, please send confirmation and we will see you tomorrow. No truck or confirmation ever came. When I called to ask what happened, the woman (Sonny) told me that they weren't sending a truck to us. Then proceeded to tell me she never said they would. After I called her out on the owner saying they would, she then told me it was my fault we didn't receive the plants because I didn't follow up with her. I will not be ordering from Kurt Bluemel again. Sure some things can be damaged in shipping, but these were poorly packed plants and I am very upset with how little their customer service seemed to care.
