About the Nursery

Heirloom Vegetable Plant Nursery. Top products: heirloom tomato plants, heirloom pepper plants, heirloom herb starts, biodegradable grow bags. Plants with Stories is a family-owned nursery based in West Michigan that specializes in the cultivation and sale of heirloom and open-pollinated vegetable plants. With over 40 years of experience in gardening and seed saving, the business operates three roadside hoop houses during the planting season, providing home gardeners and food enthusiasts with high-quality, regionally adapted plant starts. Their core mission is to promote genetic diversity and flavor preservation by offering an extensive catalog of rare and historically significant plant varieties, including over 250 varieties of tomatoes and a wide array of peppers sourced from around the globe, particularly Italy. They emphasize sustainable growing practices, the importance of seed saving, and education regarding the historical narratives behind each cultivar. In addition to plant sales, they provide practical gardening resources and eco-friendly products like biodegradable grow bags to support small-scale and container gardening.

This little gem of a place is run by two amazing gardeners. Almost all of the plants looked really healthy and cared for. They were super friendly, helpful and kind. They were definitely very knowledgeable and gave us helpful tips and tricks. Tons of variety and the lady knew them all by name and taste! I can't wait to plant my vegetables! Their pink princess tomato is a favorite in my household. I've come back year after year!

Please. Go here to buy your summer vegetable plants. Why? 1. They are cheaper than the big stores...at $12 for 3 plants when equivalent from Meijer's would be $16.50. 2. They are lovely people, who really know their stuff. I went shortly after they opened on May 15 and they advised me it was too early yet for outdoor planting as we were expecting some night temperatures in the 50s. that week. Rather than making the sale they advised me to cone back in a week or two. Honest, knowledge-based service. 3. Omg...the selection...tomatoes in their hundreds of varieties or so it seemed. Peppers too. Hot hots and even exotic milds. Go nuts. 4. Heirlooms are important! Let's grow and enjoy things we can't buy in the shops and keep the variety of species valid. 5. Support small local business and its a pleasant little drive.
