Fifth Season Gardening - Asheville

This is my absolute favorite gardening store in Asheville! They sell the best quality items for your gardening needs including tools, gardening supplies and accessories, seeds, gloves, pots, decor, and for all of your homesteading needs. They have the cutest items like gloves, pots, or other items to style up your garden. Some of their prices can be on the higher end, nut that seems to be because of the quality of the item. I have found several items that are way lower priced and better quality than their competitors such as quality soil, supplies for seed starting, indoor growing, etc. This is my go-to store for things such as soil, seeds (and seed starting), pots, gardening gloves, etc. They also have very niche gardening supplies, and have an impressive section dedicated to beer brewing. I take myself to Fifth Season every April on my birthday to splurge/buy myself something nice related to gardening, generally cutsie gardening decor. I would recommend this store to anybody who is interested in gardening (especially indoor and outdoor), indoor plants, brewing their own beer, cultivating indoor and even exotic plants, or for many other facets of homesteading. I am very impressed with the quality of every item in addition to the knowledge of every staff member. If you haven’t been to this store, I highly recommend checking it out!

This is a great place to find unique plants! I love the selection of planters as well! Lost one star because some things can be pricey.

Fifth Season is well stocked and has a very helpful staff here in working through what I've needed to complete my garden and house plants setup. Prices are reasonable and you're able to grab a drink and bring your dog in while you shop.

Incredible space, amazing staff. This was my second visit to Fifth Season. I registered for the Mushroom Foraging and Identification class with Sweet Dee. SO informative and fun. Her knowledge gave me the confidence to identify many species and peaked my interest to continue mushroom studies. Additionally Claire assisted me with some garden questions after class. Love the variety of products and such a great space all around.

I went to Fifth Season looking for a catnip plant for my cats. When I didn’t see any individual plants for sale, I noticed a clearly labeled patch of catnip in a central garden bed and thought it might be something they divided up for purchase. I asked an employee if I could take a small portion, pot it, and pay for it, and he told me that was fine. As I began digging a small amount, another employee informed me it was part of the staff garden, so I immediately stopped. I had only slightly disturbed the soil. At that point, the manager, Charles Bowden, got involved. When he saw the pot in my hand, he suggested that I was taking something I shouldn’t have and described my behavior as “strange,” saying multiple times that it was something he had never encountered before. Despite me explaining several times that I had asked for permission and had not actually dug up or taken any plant, he continued to imply otherwise, at one point saying that if I had already dug it up there would be nothing they could do and remarking again on how strange that was. The tone of the interaction felt accusatory and increasingly uncomfortable. When the interaction continued running in circles with no seeming resolve, and Charles’ continued desire to accuse, I chose to walk away and tucked the catnip neatly back into place, leaving no visible disturbance. What could have been a simple misunderstanding escalated into a demeaning interaction. The experience felt patronizing and left me uncomfortable returning to the store.
