About the Nursery

Full-Service Nursery and Landscaping. Top products: Ornamental trees, Flowering shrubs, Conifers, Grasses, Water garden features. Founded in 1984 and based in Durham, North Carolina, Kiefer Landscaping Inc. operates as a comprehensive horticultural enterprise that combines a fully functional NC Certified Nursery with a high-end landscape design and installation service. Unlike firms that merely procure materials from third-party wholesalers, Kiefer grows a significant portion of their own plant inventory. Their nursery operations emphasize 'Landscape Tough' cultivars, utilizing minimal pesticide inputs to ensure that plants are acclimated to local conditions. The business functions as a destination garden center for the public, featuring water gardens, ornamental stock, and professional horticultural consultation. Their target demographic primarily consists of residential homeowners seeking custom, non-tract landscape design. By maintaining control over the growing process, they provide larger, more established plant specimens than standard retail nurseries, specializing in complex site grading, environmental drainage solutions, and the integration of unique plant palettes into custom, climate-resilient residential outdoor spaces.

If allowed I would give negative rating for this nursery. Terrible customer service.

This was the most amazing nursery we have ever been too. The staff was awesome, plant selection unbelievable!!! We also specifically needed aquatic plants and then had 10 above ground pools with aquatics it was great. The way they also designed the nursery was spectacular. This will be our go-to plant place from now on.

Wowza. Are negative stars available? Terrible customer service from the new landscaping design consultant. If you want professional help with your garden, look elsewhere. I believe the owner of this business used to do the landscaping consultation services, but has now hired out the work to a subcontractor. The new business model is client unfriendly, at best. First, you are supposed to prepay for designer to come out to your property for a consult, then you pay again for another visit to actually create a design plan. These two prepaid service fees will cost $1,000 and were promised to occur within 2 weeks. More than 4 weeks later, we are still chasing after the prepaid services. And we are absolutely going to miss the spring planting window because there's no design to review. More than fair to say transparency on multiple prepaid fees and timeline to actually put shovels in the ground would have been a better path to building trust with customers. PS -- design consultant actually said in email "we are the most expensive because it's a privilege to work with us.". No, sorry, it's a privilege to have loyal customers because you treat them with respect.

The best nursery and landscape place I've found with friendly staff in a suprising location in Durham. Beautiful grounds up front with massive redwoods providing shade. More Japanese Maples and unique conifers than you can imagine. Excellent and varied selections, reasonably priced. Huge trees if you need big ones. Highly recommended.

This is the most beautiful garden center that I have ever seen and the staff is so friendly and helpful. They have koi, every flower imaginable and even tadpoles and the whole place is like a beautiful oasis. I live in Clayton but this is my new store for my garden. I should have taken pictures. Go visit all plant ladies!
