Hewitts Garden Center Glenmont

It doesn't appear like they care about plants. It was looking like Walmart's garden center at the end of the season. Lots of plants were tipped over and dry. It's like the staff just didn't care.

Incredibly helpful and accommodating

It's not fancy, it's rather a place of common plants. Last spring we we were looking for the Elizabeth Taylor rose and the Karl Lagerfeld rose. The blank look on the faces of the staff made feel they were not well prepared in the land of horticulture. We settled on a lesser variety. My wife and I came back this spring looking for lavender plants. We found two and happy about this. Truth be told, I find this place a common resource, of predictive average.

I like this nursery. It's one of the smaller Hewitt's locations, but they always have a good selection and the plants are well taken care of so you're buying anything that's been stressed. The staff are always very friendly and helpful.

The manager, 'Jason' I believe, is an unprofessional and incompetent man. It's no wonder he gets so many bad reviews here... I wish I read them before making the trip. The Glenmont store he manages is disgusting and it clearly reflects Jason's own level of hygiene. I was browsing the lovely perennials, but couldn't go more than a couple paces without having to step over spit up tobacco chew on the ground. I came to the conclusion that it was Jason because later I witnessed him angrily talking to a customer and spitting chew on the ground while in ACTIVE conversation with said customer, he seemed to have little patience for any question unrelated to the location of an item. Unbelievable. I say the store is filthy because if you look close you can see mouse excrement on leaf bags, on the ground and on merchandise as well. I came here during the winter and saw poop on those little santas. Mold can be seen around the store, on the walls and ceilings. It's clearly been an issue for a while, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even notice it. The inventory seems decent but the place is clearly falling apart. I feel for those who work under him, his staff are helpful, I can't imagine they learned this behavior from him. I'd avoid this place and Jason honestly. An extra star for the individual who loaded my mulch.
