About the Nursery

Native Plant Specialty Nursery. Top products: Ecotypic native seeds, Native plant seedlings, Perennials, Wildflowers. The Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI) is a cooperative horticultural operation dedicated to the cultivation and distribution of ecotypic, native plant species across Long Island. Functioning as a non-profit nursery and seed banking initiative, LINPI focuses on ecological restoration and biodiversity conservation. Their growing operations involve the ethical sourcing of local seeds, which are then propagated within their greenhouses and nursery facilities to ensure that the plants are genetically adapted to Long Island's specific environmental stressors, such as coastal conditions, drought, and unique soil profiles. LINPI provides high-quality native plant material to a diverse range of customers, including professional landscapers, habitat restoration managers, municipalities, and home gardeners. Their core mission is to bridge the gap between demand and supply by fostering a regional marketplace for sustainable, native vegetation that requires fewer resources like fertilizers and water compared to exotic alternatives.

The Long Island Native Plant Initiative is leading the way in botanical conservation on Long Island. Their wild seed harvesting, banking, and production is essential to the long-term survival of Long Island's native plant genetics and resiliency. Their public outreach and sales help educate the community while getting more native plants growing in residential gardens throughout Long Island. Additionally, their plant material is high quality and the plants thrive. Best of all, their employees and board are passionate and friendly and the hands-on volunteer opportunities are a great activity for people of all ages.
