In September 2024 I bought 3 shrubs from Paul, he was great a true gentleman. One of the shrubs did not look good and I ask him would I get a discount if it dies. Joe had stated yes. I went back in March of 2025 and showed pictures of all three pointed out the one that is dying, he stated to give it more water. Again he stated that I will get a discount if Sea of Gold do not survive. I returned one Sunday in April and spoke to Joe as Paul was not there and Joe agreed with the instructions Paul had given. In July 2025 I returned and was informed that Paul passed away may he rest in peace. I spoke to Joe and he gave me a discount of the same Sea of Gold Juniper for $100.00 the shrub cost $165, but it did not look like the same shrub at that time. Joe had asked for my number and wrote it down on a slip and placed it on the board but he never called me. I returned in August and Joe was not there decided to take the offer to get the same Sea of Gold which looked a lot better. Took the Sea of Gold Juniper to the front office and spoke to the guy behind the desk informed him of the slip on the board that has my name on it, that Joe had never called me and he gave me a discount. He took the slip to the room not sure if he really spoke to anyone he claimed it was his boss. The guy was so nasty, and stated the boss said it was $120 take it or leave it. I told him can I speak to the boss that Joe had stated $100.00 he said no. To me this guy should be fired. To me the boss and this guy should have honored what Paul and Joe was agreed on. I will never go there again. Stay away from SAM BC, they DO NOT keep their promise. In response to OWNER ---Thank you for replying. I want to clarify that my issue wasn’t about irrigation neglect—I’ve cared for the plants exactly as instructed. My concern is about the inconsistent communication and broken promises made by your staff over several months. Paul, who was a true gentleman, originally assured me I’d receive a discount if the Sea of Gold Juniper didn’t survive. Joe later confirmed this multiple times, even writing my name and number on a slip for follow-up. Unfortunately, I was never contacted, and when I returned, I was met with a dismissive attitude and a refusal to honor the agreed-upon price. I understand your policy, but when your team makes verbal commitments and fails to follow through—especially after a customer has made multiple visits and shown patience—it reflects poorly on the business. I was offered $100, then told it was $120 “take it or leave it,” with no willingness to discuss or resolve the matter respectfully. This experience has left me disappointed, and I won’t be returning. I hope you take this feedback seriously and consider how customer service and honoring agreements impact your reputation.
Wow I went in there to look for flowers for my wife and I felt like a walk in a cemetery of plants. The plants looked it like they were not watered and the dirt were dry. The employees were more focused on his phone than me the customer and employee looks depressed and not interested in helping customers at all. That why I am giving them 2 stars.
We recently met with Joe at his Garden Center to discuss some landscape ideas. Joe was very friendly, informative and professional. He made some great suggestions and was eager to get started. I highly recommend Joe and the staff at Sam's B C Nurseries. Thanks for your time Joe! Bob D East Setauket
