About the Nursery

Houseplant Retail and Consultancy. Top products: Rare houseplants, Common indoor plants, Custom potting soil mixes, Botanically themed gifts. Put a Plant On It is a Latina-owned and woman-operated indoor plant nursery and retail shop located in Buffalo, NY. As a New York State licensed and certified grower and nursery, the business serves as both a plant retailer and a comprehensive horticultural service provider. They specialize in a diverse inventory of rare and common houseplants, supported by an extensive network of over 30 professional growers nationwide. Beyond retail, the business offers professional plant consultancy, home and office plantscaping, interior plant decorating, and custom moss wall installations. A core component of their operation is education and plant maintenance, evidenced by their plant hospital services, repotting assistance via a self-serve potting station, and a robust schedule of classes covering subjects such as plant propagation, soil science, and species-specific care for philodendrons, alocasias, and carnivorous plants. The shop also functions as a community hub, showcasing goods from over 100 local artisans.

I've been coming to this shop for a few years now, the staff are lovely and knowledgeable, and the shop has a great variety of works by local artists. The plant selection is incredible as well, with the plants being organized very logically into different types, climates etc. The staff provide you with a care card for each plant, which is very helpful for newer plant keepers, people buying gifts, or folks who are branching out into different types of plants! The reason this isn't a 5 star review is just because over the past year or so, the shop has been getting more and more cramped and very badly overstimulating with the additions of many more birds in the shop and plants along the floor. It's impossible to shop without being in the way or having other customers in your way, and the shop is very loud and a bit dirty now with the birds. I greatly admire the shop for taking in rescue birds and helping them find new homes, but I have a very difficult time in this store now and typically have to leave before finding anything due to the crowding. If you're like me and have autism and/or mobility issues, or anything else that is negatively affected by cramped walkways and loud small spaces, this may not be the place for you right now. Definitely would not be accessible for wheelchair users (as far as I can tell - I may be wrong). All that being said, it really is a lovely shop that gives back to the community while providing amazing plant choices for both beginner and experienced plant keepers. If none of what I shared applies to you, then I 100% recommend stopping by and paying them a visit! It is worth your while :)

Had such a great time! Workers were super nice and gave us some old planting pots to grow our seedlings, and the birds were so cool! Will be back again when we’re in the area!

My absolute favorite plant shop in Buffalo! I've been visiting since it opened, and they've just gotten better & better. I can always find something out of the ordinary, and their selection is fantastic, with common & rare plants, supplies, and pots, jewelry, and art made by local artisans. Staff feel more like friends than employees, and have knowledge up the yinyang! They've always supported the local community, and are a safe haven for ALL, including their foster birds! 10/10 recommend!💚
