Maxwell and his team are helping me add native plants to my suburban garden in Winston-Salem in a multi-year plan. Sometimes a challenge to schedule. Always courteous and competent. The best!

So great to have a local nursery selling native plants! You can shop in person at the Cobblestone Farmers Market or schedule a visit to their nursery by emailing them. They do a good job of posting their availability online, and can try to find you a particular native plant if you contact them in advance! We purchased two native rhododendron shrubs and a native eastern redbud and flowering dogwood, and they were able to deliver and plant them all for a reasonable price. Plants seemed super healthy, too. Would definitely recommend them if you are interested in adding native plants to your landscaping!

We had looked for over a year for someone to install a water feature and help us design a landscape plan that focused mostly on native plants but also using plants and materials that I already had. I’m a master gardener and certified naturalist so it also has to be bird and critter friendly. The challenges were crap soil, lots of running liriope, and the property sits on an old growth forest which meant there were roots everywhere. The first firm came out, were very excited, had some ideas, said they would draw up some plans, and after five follow up phone calls with no response, I gave up. The next firm came out, actually did a day’s work but they were too expensive and didn't do anything more than a mow, blow, and go group would do. Then Max from Bashavian Gardens came out. Once I saw his handlebar mustache and overalls, I knew this was going to work out. He is trained in horticulture and landscape design as well as being passionate about native plants but can make an exception for a crazy lady who loves non-native hellebores. He wrote up a plan, I responded, then his partner, the indubitable pond guru Jesse Hammond, came out. His ideas are based on the lay of the land, not what he can get on sale at Ponds-R-US. The project took one week week with Jesse on site every day and usually 2-3 Bashavian staff either helping Jesse or installing the landscaping. These young people worked all the day except when they ate lunch. And they worked hard-moving small boulders, top soil, and mulch plus hiking 100 yards down a steep hill to our creek to get just the right moss, ferns, and quartz rock and bring it back uphill to place around the pond. And they were personable! They would rather talk than be on their phones. In addition, they went above and beyond without me even asking. They had a little extra topsoil and mulch left, so they went to the top of the driveway where there were several ruts so they filled that in. The dogs were digging under the porch steps chasing after chipmunks. They filled the hole with dirt, put in river rocks and a guardian garden gnome. They made stone steps from the porch to the drive way so I didn't have to walk all the way around to get to the basement. AND they pressure washed the entire area so there was no trace they were ever there. Who does that? Bashavia Designs does. The final result is an absolute work of art. It looks like it was always here. They way the rocks and plants and statuary were placed was something I could never do but once it was done, I knew everything is exactly where it belongs. And since they have given me the foundation, I have the joy of playing with the rest of the installation. Phase 2 will be the area above the wall and you can be sure Bashavian will be back this fall.
