I use to love shopping at Oakland Nursery, great selection, nice staff, and close by. But today I went there looking for a nice perennial flower or two to add to my garden and the prices are ridiculous. A cone flower (echinacea) plant was $24.99 for just one plant, it was on "sale" for $22.00 but come on... what a rip off. We still shop here occasionally mostly for trees, but for plants I buy them at my local "pop up" garden center across from St. Michels, or Costco, or Menards (early in the season since they forget to water them and all their plants are dead by July.) But my favorite plants are from seed packets from Menards for $1.79 like Zinnia, Bachelor Buttons, Morning Glory, Marigolds. I also sub divide plants like Shasta daisies, Elephant ears, and Iris. What's sad is that Costco will sells you a bag of 50 Tulips, or 50 Daffodils, or a 2 gal Azalea, or even an 4 ft tall Arborvitae for a cheaper price than I can buy a single small 6" tall cone flower plant at Oakland park nursery. For that reason I try and avoid this garden center if at all possible, I don't like feeling ripped off, kind of takes the fun out of gardening.

It's really pretty to browse around the place. I like their koi ponds, Even though that's not what I'm there to buy.

I love this place so much! We’ve shopped here for years and have gotten some beautiful, healthy plants. And even when we’re not in the market it’s just such a nice outdoor space, we go and walk around and enjoy the plants and the fish and the weather. It’s dog friendly and everyone has been so kind to my old pup there! Highly recommend it!
