About the Nursery

Specialty Maple and Tree Nursery. Top products: Japanese Maples, Magnolias, Edible Trees and Shrubs, Flowering Dogwoods, Fruit-bearing Plants. Whitman Farms is a specialized horticultural nursery located in Oregon, primarily focused on the cultivation and sale of a diverse collection of trees and shrubs. The business is particularly renowned for its extensive catalog of Japanese Maple (Acer) cultivars and Magnolias, ranging from grafted starts and gallon-sized pots to larger, field-grown specimen trees. Beyond ornamentals, the nursery offers a broad selection of edible plants, including various fruit trees, berries, and nut-producing species such as chestnuts, pawpaws, persimmons, and pomegranates. Operated by Lucile, the farm serves a niche market of plant collectors, garden enthusiasts, and landscapers who value specialized, hard-to-find cultivars. The operation emphasizes direct-to-consumer sales, offering year-round shipping depending on weather conditions. Their business model relies on maintaining a high-quality, curated inventory of hardy and ornamental species, often providing rare or unexpected varieties that are not typically available in mass-market retail garden centers.

We ordered 4 goumi berry bushes "Tillamook" from Lucile in 1 gal pots. They arrived perfectly about a week later (we are across the country in Michigan) and the way they were packaged was an engineering feat , for sure! Not a leaf was damaged. The goumis are all planted up now and happy as can be. Very impressed. Definitely take a chance with Lucile at Whitman Farms even if the ordering process seems unconventional in today's online shopping landscape. I am so glad we did, especially bc we couldn't find goumis anywhere else!! Thank you Lucile!

Was for certain I would love to place based on other people’s recommendations, but I called left a message was told to text. I texted for over a month and can’t get a response. it’s hard to support business if they don’t communicate with you.

Bad experience. One the location is EXTREMELY hard to get to and the signs leading there making no sense. I ended up somewhere else and the guy who redirected me, not only was a jerk but was also mad how people always bother him when trying to finding the nursery. Second we were told our tree would be ready whenever this week and I show up and she told me it hasn’t event even been dug and I had to wait for it. She also kept repeating “I told you not till Wednesday”, that never happened. Third I run a landscaping business and have all the correct licenses to plant. The way she tried to educate me on planting this 3 ft tree was humiliating. Go somewhere cleaner, organized and prepared.

Lucille was so helpful over the phone. I ordered bare root plants and they all came in wonderfully healthy and larger than expected. Will be a returning customer!
