Synthesis is a great cozy little plant shop tucked away just off of Walnut St right in the heart of Shadyside. They’ve got tons of different types of cactuses, and a great collection of planters that are really boutique and high quality. The employees are great and really knowledgeable about all kinds of plants, and they can help you find something that is right for your light levels and comfort levels. I also really love that the plants have the Latin scientific names as well as the common name on the labels so you can know exactly what you’re getting.

Absolutely love this place! We stop here anytime we are in Shadyside to pick up a new, unique plant. The shop owner is amazing, knowledgeable, and friendly. The prices are the best around and the plants are always healthy and very well maintained. This time around I bought pots to go with my new plants and she even repotted them for me!

Always an absolute treat to stop in here, say hi to the pup, and see the beautiful collection of plants, pots, and decor. I really appreciate the owner’s vibes and how she has curated the shop. Synthesis is a gem!

We stopped in while visiting from out of town and were instantly drawn in by the cutest dog sunbathing outside—such great vibes right from the start! The shop has a charming, cozy feel with tons of greenery, especially cacti, pothos, and trailing philodendrons. While they didn’t have exactly what we were looking for, it was still fun to browse. My sister-in-law was interested in a Philodendron Brasil, but unfortunately, the ones available seemed to have some root rot. A lot of the plants looked heavily watered—maybe it was just watering day, so that could explain it. We still enjoyed the visit and I ended up buying a super cute planter pot! Parking was a little tricky—we may not have parked in the correct spot since there were “private parking” signs behind the shop, but we were only in there for about 5 minutes. Giving 5 stars because the atmosphere was lovely, and I know how much these ratings matter to small shops. 💚
