About the Nursery

Boutique Garden Center Retailer. Top products: specialty plants, garden tools, pottery, iron planters, home decor. Garden Gate Living is a family-owned boutique garden center located in Old Town Bluffton, South Carolina. Positioned as a curated shopping destination rather than a traditional high-volume production nursery, the business focuses on providing a diverse and rotating selection of specialty plants alongside complementary horticultural and lifestyle goods. Their inventory is curated to offer unique botanical varieties, paired with high-quality garden hardgoods including iron planters, pottery, arbors, and specialized gardening tools. Beyond their living inventory, the business serves as a retail destination for home décor, gifts, and personal care products, catering primarily to local homeowners seeking high-end, aesthetic garden accents. They operate with a frequent inventory turnover strategy to ensure a fresh, seasonal shopping experience. The business maintains a strong community presence and operates in coordination with Orlando & Sons Irrigation, Inc., which handles complementary services such as professional lighting and irrigation systems.

The owner(s?) Were so unbelievably rude. I was shopping with my mother, just quietly browsing when they came up to me and began to comment on what kind of example was I setting for kids with my tattoos (they're all flowers). I said that I was telling them to be themselves and he continued to comment, even going as far as to touch my arm and catalog my tattoos expecting an explanation. His wife(?) Laughed and went along with it. They finally left, but I have never ever been more uncomfortable. I will not ever be back nor recommend this store. The sales clerk was perfectly nice and kind, and looked as uncomfortable as I felt.

This charming garden shop and nursery is housed in what appears to be an historic Bluffton Old Town building, but I learned that it was actually constructed in this century. Regardless of it’s actually age, it has an old world charm about it. The interior of the shop is adorned with lots of garden-themed and seasonal merchandise. Today, it sported loads of bunnies and other spring and Easter decor. Outside in the courtyard, surrounded by live oaks laden with Spanish moss, there are oodles of urns and pots of different sizes, shape and constitution. They seem to be home to a small colony of skinks and geckos, which only added to their intrigue. They had a small selection of petite succulents and some other plants and small trees, as well, to offer in additional to the pottery. The shop ladies were personable, and I quite enjoyed my visit.

Wow. This place is really nice. Walk in and the smell is amazing! As a sinus sufferer, I do not smell scents often. When I do it is a blessing. I could smell this store FROM OUTSIDE! When we walked we were greeted with this beautiful smile. I do not recall her name. Bad with names. But she did say she was newer to working at the store. We spoke for a while and I could have spoken to her for hours. Every item we spoke about I purchased. Prices are fair. A little bit pricey but not too bad. The woman who checked us out was not sharing the same vibe. No friendly smile. No good chat. It was rather sad. I would not have purchased anything if I had met her first. Have to keep the good vibes of the store going. All things considered I will be back. I may have found a new happy place.

We have visited The Garden Gate Nursery twice and both times were treated royally by Ali and Allison. They are fabulous employees and very enthusiastic. My mother had an art gallery in Manhattan for 38 years that specialized in Asian art and antiques. I have a very high expectation of quality and this shop far exceeds that level of excellence. This shop, Calhouns where fine wine and a generous owner offer music outside on Sundays are Fabulous!!! In case you’ve never eaten at Frankie Bones you must try it ‼️Bluffton is a find…
