About the Nursery

Retail Garden Center and Produce. Top products: Ornamental plants, Seasonal produce, Fresh local vegetables, Pumpkins, Potted plants. Nalls Produce & Garden Center is a multi-generational, family-owned horticultural retailer and produce market located in Alexandria, Virginia. Established in 1961 by Cary Nalls, the business has evolved from a roadside vegetable wagon into a comprehensive local landmark. The garden center operates as a key destination for community members, offering a diverse selection of ornamental plants and gardening supplies supported by expert horticultural advice. Beyond its nursery operations, Nalls functions as a hub for local food, sourcing seasonal fruits and vegetables from a network of regional growers. Their business model centers on community engagement and sustainability, illustrated by their 'Crop Share' subscription program which facilitates access to fresh, locally-grown produce. The site serves homeowners seeking both garden improvement materials and fresh pantry staples, maintaining a retail environment that emphasizes education, traditional gardening expertise, and a family-oriented atmosphere.

The selection here is always very nice, their little store has fun items to explore. Folks are generally helpful and I often end up spending quite a bit of money here. Unfortunately, I bought three forever blooming rose bushes and asked -"Is there anything special I need to know about these?" Nope nothing, plant them with decent amount of space. They take care of themselves. Just water them. They like Sun. (This was in May) I went away for a long weekend at the end of the month and came back to three nearly dead looking rose bushes. They had been annihilated by Rose slugs... something I had to research on-line. I would have appreciated if someone would have said hey, these things can get Rose slugs get some spray to treat them a couple times during a certain time frame to ward off any trouble with pests. Thanks to the internet and Amazon, I was able to order and receive the pest spray I needed. So now instead of beautiful flowering bushes, I have been staring at green stalks trying to come back to life. I don't expect plants to be without completely without pests, but some guidance upon purchasing them would have been extremely helpful.
